My name is Karen Principe and I want to make a positive change in our community of tastawiyiniwak. It is the reason I have decided to run for city council in the upcoming civic election on October 18, 2021. Many issues have arisen over the past few years which concern me and have motivated me to make this decision - overspending, increased densification, reduced transit services and a lack of road/sidewalk maintenance.
My personal life revolves around my family. I've been married to Gene Principe for twenty four years and we have three children (four if you count our rescue dog Patrick). My two eldest kids are currently attending university in Edmonton while the youngest is in Grade 12.
Since 1998 I have been a Registered Dental Hygienist. Along with working in private practice I have worked as an instructor at NAIT. I have volunteered my time in Edmonton at 'Free Dental Day' for those that are underprivileged. One of my greatest professional experiences was spending a week in Peru on a dental mission.
As a former small business owner I understand the challenges of running a business. With today's economic climate and the impact of COVID-19, small businesses need our support.
For twenty three years I have lived in and been an active member of this community. I enjoyed volunteering at Kilkenny Playschool, Evansdale, and St. John Bosco where my children attended school. As a family we enjoy volunteering at the Edmonton Food Bank and the Edmonton Christmas Bureau.
Some of my interests include playing soccer, taking wine courses to become a sommelier and I love to cook. I believe I have the right recipe to be the next city councillor for tastawiyiniwak.
